Henry Belden: Loose Ends
08.02.2025 – 15.03.2025

Simo Bacar is delighted to announce the opening of “Loose Ends”, a solo exhibition by New York-based artist Henry Belden. This show marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in Europe.

There it is. That’s it. The boy sat at the table in a muslin suit that had always been his. Faint, tawdry, with expectations leveled sideways, he worked with slackened hand, cutting from paper scraps now spread about—soon to be stacked again. Had his forehead not been clinging to the windowpane, honeyed by sun, with so stolid a stare outward, lashes aflicker, condensation growing like an uninvolved spirit, the scissors held might have settled into a steady rhythm, sustained between breaths. And lo!—the missive of the day did not lie in the street below, past his sightline, nor in the hothouse reflection—too near to register, too smudged to respond—but at the truer workspace, askant, bridged by wrist alone. And lo!—low the table stood, much as unsolicited advice merits a mock and paltry flinch, with bounty atop: magazines found and stolen, a glue stick fallen prostrate, a spare blade, a spare meaning. His cell phone ringing, oftener and oftener, with porous bleat, first resisted, bore upon him with enough endurance to peel his head from glass, arm from task, waist from chair. Answer.

“I am ninety. I am ten. I am a reformer who’s never believed in homework.”

“I am apple. I am not. I’m a sneer should I not be found.”
